New camera – and the blog is back
So after a hiatus of almost a year - both from the blog and from putting any effort into taking photos – I replaced my ageing Canon EOS 300D today with a Nikon D5000 and took a whole set of photos out in the New Forest to try out the new camera and the three lenses that came in the purchase:
- Nikkor VR 18-55mm for my general usage (it came bundled with the camera)
- Tamron 70-300mm for portraits and wildlife
- Tamron 10-24mm for wide angles of buildings, rooms (for work) and landscapes.
So far I am very happy with the camera and thought the occasion warranted the blog being made live again too – maybe I will do a better job of getting interesting content on here. The ‘TopPhoto’ series of posts will also be continuing where it left off and right now I am going to post my favourite shot of the day featuring Bitza (my dog):

OK – So I have been getting carried away with things, and not made any postings… so I thought I would warm myself back up into blogging by posting a new (old) photo from my Top Photos collection. This was taken driving into the Masai Mara, Kenya.

Career Advice from Sameer Vasta
Just been going through some of my ’starred items’ in Google Reader – things that looked interesting but I didnt have time to read when I first saw them. What has stuck out is this honest, and genuinely useful advice on career options from my friend Sameer Vasta.
Top Photos: Sea Turtle
So with Switzerland and the conference in Windsor I haven’t been paying much attention to my blog.
Forgive me.
Here is the latest installment in the top photos series. Taken off the west coast of Barbados.
Top Photos: Snow
As I am just about to leave in the car for Switzerland I am posting today’s photo. It was taken just above St. Luc in Switzerland – the same area I am about to visit. In the photo are my grandparents who sadly passed away last year.
I think it is a beautiful photo that shows that captures the experience of the snow in that part of Switzerland. Hopefully I will be updating Flickr with more photos of scenery like this over the next week or so.
Top Photos: Stairs

I’ve been to Barcelona a few times. It’s a beautiful city – and the Sagrada Familia is something that you will remember if you ever explore it. Each of the towers has a staircase like this – and when you climb up it the thought does enter your mind, “What will happen if I fall down the gap in the middle?”.
Top Photos: Hot Dog

New York is famous for it’s hot dog vendors… this photo was taken in December 2007 and shows a different type of ‘hot’ dog! Somewhere in Soho I think. I just think it is funny.
And yes – those are little shoes on the feet!
Photos begin here…
After posting my quick photo of the beach tonight I thought I would take the time to sort through my 3000+ photos on Flickr and pick out a handful that I especially like.
Today’s post is now the beginning of a new series of blog posts here at silentthinker.com . Most days (when I have time and don’t forget) I will post one of my favourite photos from my Flickr collection – I look forward to hearing your comments!
